The 18-year-old from Kent fell to the ground and put her hands over her face after beating the 19-year-old Canadian 6-4, 6-3, in front of an enthralled Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows. She is also the first Brit to win a Grand Slam since Andy Murray last won Wimbledon in 2016 and the first Brit to win the US Open since Murray's victory in 2012. Raducanu made history in the States last night as the first qualifier, male or female, to ever win a Grand Slam and the first British woman to win a major tournament since Virginia Wade won Wimbledon in 1977.
